San Francisco Backyard Gourmet Barbecue
Transforming an underutilized backyard into a chic outdoor gourmet space, perfect for barbecues and social gatherings. An urban oasis in San Francisco.
Client's Vision
The Clients approached Faushen Design to turn their underutilized backyard into a functional and inviting barbecue area. Despite having outdoor space, it was underused and didn't meet their needs for entertainment and relaxation. The idea was to create an environment that would serve both for social gatherings and intimate dinners.
Our Approach
The outdoor area already had a solid foundation and a drainage system, which made it easier to install a deck. The design respected the architectural style of the home and the couple's preferences. An adjacent kitchen was integrated into the barbecue area, enhancing the usable space and functionality of the setting.
Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge was to harmonize the new project with the existing features of the house and garden without compromising the authenticity of the space. The solution was to utilize the existing symmetry in the environment to create a cohesive and harmonious recreational area.
Transformation Complete
The project revitalized the backyard, turning it into a functional and aesthetically pleasing space. The existing tropical plants were enhanced and now feature an irrigation system. The furniture was updated and now includes a rectangular fire pit, ideal for cold days. The deck was built using Alaskan Yellow Cedar, contributing to the project's European and contemporary aesthetic.
Designer's Perspective
”As a Brazilian who loves family barbecues, this project was especially gratifying for me. It was a pleasure to work with a couple with such refined taste. Their input in picking a rectangular firepit, for example, was an excellent addition to the design. For me, a gourmet area like this would be a dream come true.
